Overview

Our History

Le Foyer de l’Amitié is a social center founded in 1979 in Zahlé, the capital of the Beqaa, by the Basilian Salvatorian Religious Order, whose Superior General is Father Sleiman Abou Zeid. (The Order takes its name from Saint Basil and Jesus the Savior. It is part of the Melkite Catholic Church, religious, missionary, clerical, with three vows, of pontifical right and papal exemption).

Le Foyer de l’Amitié  is a Lebanese non-governmental organization, officially recognized as being of public utility by the Lebanese State (Decree-Law No. 2212). Since 1979, it has been working with the populations of Lebanon, and especially the Beqaa, who are the most disadvantaged

Our Mission

The Foyer de l’Amitié was established in a region particularly affected by war, to serve humanity and childhood with a vision of openness, solidarity, and development. In its early days, the Foyer of Friendship focused on children who were victims of the war. In a context marked by isolation, withdrawal, conflict, and the destruction of social structures, the scale of needs and the dynamism of the working team led to the development of diverse and complementary programs. This broadened the initial mission of the Foyer to include teaching, education, training, and professional integration.

Our Contribution

Providing assistance to the most disadvantaged, without any religious or denominational distinction; rebuilding bonds of cooperation within Lebanese society; contributing to the reconstruction of peace through social, educational, and training initiatives for Lebanon, in love and respect for humanity — these are the principles that guide the work of the Foyer.
